Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. light corn syrup
  • 3 Tbsp. oleo or butter
  • 1 lb. unroasted peanuts

Method

  • Butter 2 cookie sheets.
  • Keep warm.
  • Mix baking soda, water and vanilla.
  • Mix sugar, 1 cup water and syrup in 3-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally to 240° or forms soft ball in cold water.
  • Stir in oleo and peanuts.
  • Cook, stirring always, to 300° or in brittle threads.
  • Don't let it burn.
  • Quickly add baking soda to mixture until light and foamy.
  • Pour candy onto cookie sheets.
  • Cool and break into pieces.
  • Makes about 6 dozen candies.
