Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion
- 1 green pepper
- 2 to 3 tsp. chili powder
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 (10 3/4 oz.) can condensed tomato soup
- salt and pepper
- 4 sandwich buns (such as hamburger buns, onion rolls, English muffins)
- butter or margarine
Method
- Cook beef in an 8 to 10-inch frying pan on medium-high heat for 5 minutes or until meat begins to brown.
- Break meat into fine crumbs as it cooks.
- While beef cooks, chop onion and green pepper. Add onion and pepper to beef along with chili powder.
- Cook, stirring, for about 15 minutes or until onion is translucent.
- Stir in sugar and soup.
- Cook for 3 to 4 minutes more, until hot and bubbly.
- Add salt and pepper to taste; keep hot.
- Split sandwich buns crosswise.
- Lightly butter cut sides.
- Toast in a broiler or toaster oven.
- Spoon hot Sloppy Joes mixture over toasted buns. Serve hot.
