Ingredients

  • 100 gm butter
  • 100gm dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup ground almond
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup Self Raising Flour
  • 3/4 cup plain flour
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • 150ml heavy cream
  • 150gm dark chocolate
  • 2 or more tbsp sugar (to taste)

Method

  • Preheat oven to 180C (350F) and grease and line a 22cm round cake tin.
  • Melt the butter, dark chocolate and cream in a pot. Bring to simmer then remove from the heat.
  • Add the sugar, ground almond, milk, vanilla extract and eggs to the chocolate mixture and mix well.
  • Add in the sifted flours and pour into the greased and lined cake pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 55 - 60 minutes.
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate sauce. Bring the cream slowly to a boil and remove from the heat. Add in the dark chocolate and sugar (to taste). Cool before spreading over the cooled cake.
