Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. round steak
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 stalk celery, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Method

  • Cut meat into serving sizes (about 6).
  • Combine flour, salt, pepper and chili powder.
  • Pound 2 tablespoons of mixture into meat. Heat shortening in a skillet; brown meat on both sides.
  • Drain excess fat from skillet.
  • Add undrained tomatoes, onion, celery, carrot, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Cover and simmer for 1 hour or until tender.
  • Remove meat; place on a platter.
  • Skim excess fat off sauce.
  • Combine 1/4 cup of water with remaining flour mixture and stir into sauce.
  • Serve with rice or noodles.
