Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • sifted powdered sugar

Method

  • Beat together butter and sugar until fluffy.
  • Beat in vanilla; add eggs, one at a time, blending well after each addition. Combine flour with baking soda and salt; add to batter alternately with buttermilk; beginning and ending with flour.
  • Butter and flour an 8-cup fluted mold.
  • Pour in batter.
  • Bake at 350° for about 1 1/2 hours or until a tester inserted in center comes out clean. Allow cake to stand 5 minutes inverted; remove cake from pan and finish cooling on a cake rack.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
