Ingredients
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 heaping tsp. shortening
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 egg
- 3 to 4 c. flour
Method
- Mix sugar, shortening, water and salt; cool.
- Into measuring cup, put 1 teaspoon sugar, yeast and warm water; stir.
- Let rise to top of cup while first mixture cools to lukewarm.
- Combine the 2 mixtures in a bowl.
- Beat egg and add to mixture.
- Add flour, one cup at a time.
- Stir until as stiff as you can handle.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Make out in rolls or 2 loaves.
- Let loaves rise again for about 2 hours.
- Put in greased pans and bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
