Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 heaping tsp. shortening
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 3 to 4 c. flour

Method

  • Mix sugar, shortening, water and salt; cool.
  • Into measuring cup, put 1 teaspoon sugar, yeast and warm water; stir.
  • Let rise to top of cup while first mixture cools to lukewarm.
  • Combine the 2 mixtures in a bowl.
  • Beat egg and add to mixture.
  • Add flour, one cup at a time.
  • Stir until as stiff as you can handle.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Make out in rolls or 2 loaves.
  • Let loaves rise again for about 2 hours.
  • Put in greased pans and bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
