Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 pkg. chopped figs
  • 1 box raisins
  • 2 c. blackberry jam
  • 2 c. strawberry jam
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. English walnuts
  • 1 c. pecans

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add eggs, beating well.
  • Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk.
  • Add the jams. Mix fruits and nuts; dredge with flour.
  • Add to creamed mixture. Pour into 4 greased layer cake pans.
  • Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. Spread Date Filling between layers.
  • Frost with Caramel Frosting.
