Ingredients
- 6 c. plain flour
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
Method
- In a large mixing bowl, heat milk and margarine until warm (not hot); stir in sugar and add yeast (until dissolved), then add flour (the consistency of cake dough).
- Set aside to rise for 1 to 2 hours in a warm place.
- Then add 2 or more cups of flour as needed, until dough becomes tacky.
- Add salt, soda and baking powder; mix.
- Make into balls and dip into warm butter.
- Put into muffin tins.
- Let rise in a warm place for 2 hours and bake in a hot oven.
