Ingredients
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 3/4 tsp. soda
- 1/3 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. water
- 2 to 3 eggs (depending on size)
- 2/3 c. cocoa
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Method
- Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.
- Combine dry ingredients.
- Add alternately with the water.
- Makes 2 layers or a 9 x 13-inch loaf cake.
- Bake at 350° until cake tests done, 25 to 35 minutes.
- Mom always frosted it with chocolate icing and it seemed there was always chocolate cake in the cake saver.
