Ingredients
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. butter (not margarine)
- 1/4 c. light corn syrup
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 4 c. sugar
- 2 c. chopped pecans
- 2 Tbsp. vanilla
Method
- Put buttermilk, butter, corn syrup, baking soda and sugar into a large 6 to 8-quart pot.
- Place on low heat, stirring until sugar is melted.
- Cook to 236° on candy thermometer or until soft ball forms when dropped into cold water.
- Remove from heat.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Add nuts and vanilla.
- Beat until mixture becomes thick and loses it's gloss.
- Pour into buttered 12 x 14-inch pan. Cool.
- Cut into squares.
- Makes about 3 pounds.
