Ingredients
- 1/2 to 2/3 c. sugar
- 1 heaping Tbsp. shortening
- 2 c. milk
- flour
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 cake compressed yeast
Method
- Pour boiling water over sugar, salt and shortening.
- Scald milk and pour on above.
- When lukewarm, add yeast.
- Add enough flour until dough is able to be kneaded.
- Put dough on floured board and knead, adding flour as necessary.
- Knead until smooth and elastic.
- Put dough into greased bowl.
- Rub butter or shortening on top.
- Cover and let rise until doubled in size. Punch down; let rise in bowl again until double in size.
