Ingredients

  • 1 German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 (14 oz.) bag caramels
  • 3/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped pecans

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Melt caramels, butter and milk in a double boiler, set aside.
  • Prepare cake mix as directed on package.
  • Pour half the batter into a greased and floured oblong pan.
  • Bake 15 minutes.
  • Remove cake from oven and pour caramel mixture over top. Next sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over caramel layer.
  • Now pour rest of cake batter on top and bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 325°.
  • Cool cake 20 minutes before serving.
  • Spoon a generous amount of Cool Whip on top when serving.
