Ingredients
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2/3 c. cold water
- oil for deep fat frying
Method
- Sift dry ingredients.
- Add shortening and cut in with knives until blended.
- Gradually add enough cold water to make a pastry consistency.
- Turn out on floured board and knead until smooth. Cover and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Roll out onto board in a 12 x 15-inch rectangle, 1/8 to 1/16-inch thickness.
- Cut into 2 x 3-inch pieces or 3-inch squares.
- Cover with wax paper.
- Heat oil.
- Drop squares, turning 3 or 4 times while frying.
- Drain and serve. Serve with honey.
