Ingredients

  • 2 packs yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 c. milk, scalded and cooled to lukewarm
  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Beat 1 cup flour into cooled milk.
  • Beat margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg and salt. Beat well.
  • Add the milk-flour combination and the yeast.
  • Gradually add 3 1/2 cups of flour until it forms a soft, not stiff dough.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Place in greased bowl.
  • Cover and let rise until doubled.
  • Turn out on floured pastry cloth.
  • Press into 8 x 16-inch rectangle.
  • Cut in strips 2/3-inch wide by 8-inch.
  • Makes 24.
