Ingredients
- 4 c. sliced, fresh berries
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. butter or oleo, melted
- 1/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- whipped cream
Method
- Combine sliced berries and sugar, stirring gently.
- Chill 1 to 2 hours.
- Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Gradually add enough milk to form a soft dough, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 4 or 5 times.
- Roll the dough into an 11 x 8-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
