Ingredients

  • 2 lb. bulk Italian sausage (I always use Hillshire Farm hot and spicy)
  • 2 c. chopped onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic or 1 tsp. dried, minced garlic
  • 2 (28 oz.) cans whole tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, undrained
  • 1 tsp. oregano leaves
  • 2 c. chopped green pepper
  • 12 oz. can tomato paste
  • 2 tsp. basil leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper (if desired)

Method

  • Brown sausage, onion, green pepper and garlic. Drain.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and simmer, uncovered.
  • I let this cook for hours on low. The longer it cooks, the better it is.
