Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening chilled and cut into cubes
  • 3 tablespoons butter chilled and cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 7 1/16 tablespoons sharp cheddar cheese

Method

  • Preheat oven to 220 degrees C.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda.
  • With your fingertips rub shortening and butter to the flour mix until well combined. Then gradually stir in buttermilk.
  • Spoon 8 balls of the dough to the baking sheet. Sprinkle with cheese on top.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until lightly brown on top.
