Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 c. bread crumbs or oatmeal
  • 1 can English peas or peas and carrots, drained
  • 1/2 to 3/4 c. grated cheese
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 1/2 c. instant mashed potato flakes
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. minced onion
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt

Method

  • Combine the first 6 ingredients and press into a 9-inch pie plate (bottom and sides).
  • Bake for 15 minutes in a 425° oven. Pour off fat.
  • Pour the peas or peas and carrots into shell. Sprinkle with the cheese.
  • Boil the water.
  • Add the potato flakes, milk, egg, butter, salt, onion and garlic salt.
  • Mix thoroughly. (May need to add more potatoes if too thin or more milk if too thick.)
  • Cover pie with potato mixture. Sprinkle with paprika. Bake again for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
