Ingredients

  • 4 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 2 cups nuts or 2 cups raisins or 2 cups dried fruit or 2 cups coconut or 1 small candy, (I like 1 cup sliced almonds and 1 cup dried cranberries myself.)
  • 1 cup natural-style peanut butter
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Method

  • In a large bowl, stir together the quick oats and flavourings.
  • In a small bowl, stir together natural peanut butter and corn syrup and vanilla.
  • Don't substitute regular peanut butter, it is too soft and the granola bars will fall apart.
  • Don't substitute maple syrup or pancake syrup, they are not sticky enough and the granola bars will crumble.
  • Once the wet ingredients are evenly mixed together, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and mix well.
  • You might need to use your hands, like with chocolate chip cookie dough.
  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.
  • Dump the granola mixture onto the waxed paper, and spread out with your hands.
  • Press firmly into shape.
  • Flatten and compress with a rolling pin.
  • Slice into individual bars.
