Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 lb. dates, cut into small pieces
  • 1 lb. candy orange slices, cut into small pieces
  • 2 c. pecans, chopped
  • 1 (4 oz.) can coconut

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar well. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix soda with buttermilk and add to cake alternately with flour. Stir in dates, orange slices and nuts that have been dredged in a small amount of flour. Add coconut. Bake cake in either a greased and floured tube pan in a 300° oven for 2 hours or a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan in a 250° oven for 2 1/2 hours.
