Ingredients

  • 2 loaves onion bread
  • (add 1 pkg onion soup mix
  • to dough for 2 white loaves)
  • 2 t salt
  • 1/2 t pepper
  • 1 1/2 t sage
  • 1 t thyme
  • 1 T poultry seasoning
  • 1 T chopped fresh rosemary
  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 3/4 c minced onion
  • 6 T butter
  • 2 c turkey (or chicken)broth

Method

  • Trim crusts from bread and cube loaves. There should be about 18 cups. Spread onto baking sheets to allow to dry out. (May put in 250* oven)
  • Combine seasonings and mix well.
  • Fry onions in shortening. Add bread cubes and herb mixture and saute til browned and crisped. (Do this in 3 batches)
  • Pour mixture into 3 qt casserole dish. Melt butter in broth and pour over mixture.
  • Cover with foil and bake at 350* for about 30 min.
