Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. buttermilk
  • 5 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cream butter and gradually add sugar, beating well.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Add buttermilk and beat well.
  • Combine flour and soda; gradually stir into creamed mixture.
  • Stir in vanilla; chill dough several hours or overnight. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick on floured board.
  • Place 1-inch apart on lightly greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 375° until light brown. Sprinkle sugar over them.
