Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 2 c. flour (cake flour)
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 small Angel Flake coconut
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 5 stiffly beaten egg whites

Method

  • Cream butter, shortening and sugar until smooth.
  • Add egg yolks, one at a time.
  • Add flour, soda and buttermilk alternately. Add vanilla, coconut and nuts.
  • Fold in egg whites.
  • Bake in three 8-inch greased and floured pans at 350° for 25 minutes. Then cool and frost.
