Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 6 large crabs
  • 1 lb large shrimp
  • 1 (1 lb) packagehot link sausage
  • 2 cups cooked okra
  • water, to cover
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 2 cups long grain rice
  • salt and pepper

Method

  • In a large pot, mix 3 Tblsp.
  • flour with 2 Tblsp.
  • shortening.
  • Brown until golden.
  • Add onion, celery, okra and water; let cook for 1 hour.
  • Add all other ingredients and let cook for another hour.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste and let cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Turn heat off.
  • In a separate pot, cook 2 cups of long grain rice to serve with gumbo.
