Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 c. flour
  • 3 eggs
  • sliced almonds, toasted
  • butter frosting of choice
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 3 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 4 c. rye flour
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 8 c. white flour

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in water.
  • Add 1 teaspoon sugar and rye flour, making a "sponge".
  • Add remaining ingredients except white flour; mix well.
  • Add white flour until right consistency.
  • Mix and knead well.
  • Let rise 2 to 3 times.
  • Make into loaves and bake.
