Ingredients

  • 12 slices bread, lightly buttered
  • 1 to 1 1/2 lb. sausage
  • 1/2 lb. Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard

Method

  • Saute sausage until cooked; drain liquid off.
  • Beat eggs with milk, salt and mustard.
  • Trim crust from bread if desired.
  • Place 6 slices bread, butter side up, into 13 x 9-inch pan.
  • Spread 1/2 sausage and cheese over bread.
  • Place remaining 6 slices of bread on top and remainder sausage, then cheese.
  • Pour egg mixture on top and press down with spatula until milk comes to top of casserole. Refrigerate if desired overnight.
  • Remove from refrigerator 45 minutes before you cook.
  • Bake at 350° until done, about 1 hour.
