Ingredients
- 12 slices bread, lightly buttered
- 1 to 1 1/2 lb. sausage
- 1/2 lb. Cheddar cheese, shredded
- 4 eggs
- 3 c. milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
Method
- Saute sausage until cooked; drain liquid off.
- Beat eggs with milk, salt and mustard.
- Trim crust from bread if desired.
- Place 6 slices bread, butter side up, into 13 x 9-inch pan.
- Spread 1/2 sausage and cheese over bread.
- Place remaining 6 slices of bread on top and remainder sausage, then cheese.
- Pour egg mixture on top and press down with spatula until milk comes to top of casserole. Refrigerate if desired overnight.
- Remove from refrigerator 45 minutes before you cook.
- Bake at 350° until done, about 1 hour.
