Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. dry Great Northern beans (about 1 lb.)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 lb. sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 3 Tbsp. molasses
  • 3 small onions, chopped

Method

  • Place beans and salt in a saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat; cover and let stand for 1 hour. Drain, reserving liquid. Combine beans, 1 cup of liquid and the remaining ingredients in a greased 2 1/2-quart baking dish. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 1/4 hours or until beans are tender, stirring occasionally (add reserved liquid if needed). Yield: 8 to 10 servings.
