Ingredients

  • 2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 1 c. (4 oz.) sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp. soda

Method

  • Combine flour and shortening in a medium bowl.
  • Cut in shortening until mixture is coarse.
  • Stir in cheese.
  • Combine buttermilk, mustard and soda.
  • Pour into flour mixture and stir until mixed.
  • Turn onto floured board; knead 3 or 4 times.
  • Roll out and cut into biscuits.
  • Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 425° for 12 to 15 minutes.
