Ingredients
- 1 c. butter, softened
- 2 1/4 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Method
- Cream butter in a large bowl.
- Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
- Add eggs, beating well.
- Combine flour, baking powder, soda and nutmeg.
- Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, mixing well.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
- Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes or until Tea Cakes are lightly browned.
- Cool on wire racks.
- Yields 6 dozen.
