Ingredients
- 3/4 c. warm water
- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 c. unsifted flour
Method
- Put yeast into the warm water and add 1 tsp sugar from the 1/4 c. Let stand a few minutes so the yeast begins to work, then add remainder of the sugar, egg, shortening and salt.
- Beat with electric mixer.
- Add the flour and mix on low speed.
- Have floured area ready to put the dough on.
- Use flour on hand and rolling pin. Roll the dough by hand a little on the floured board, and then pat or roll the dough out less than 1/2 inch thick.
- Brush melted butter over dough and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Raisins may be added if desired.
- Roll the dough as for jelly roll. Cut in 1/2 inch slices.
- Place on greased cookie sheet and let rise until double in size.
- Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
