Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. warm water
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 c. unsifted flour

Method

  • Put yeast into the warm water and add 1 tsp sugar from the 1/4 c. Let stand a few minutes so the yeast begins to work, then add remainder of the sugar, egg, shortening and salt.
  • Beat with electric mixer.
  • Add the flour and mix on low speed.
  • Have floured area ready to put the dough on.
  • Use flour on hand and rolling pin. Roll the dough by hand a little on the floured board, and then pat or roll the dough out less than 1/2 inch thick.
  • Brush melted butter over dough and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Raisins may be added if desired.
  • Roll the dough as for jelly roll. Cut in 1/2 inch slices.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet and let rise until double in size.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
