Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas and carrots
  • 2 c. mashed or instant potatoes

Method

  • Melt 2 tablespoons butter.
  • Add onion and ground beef; saute until beef is thoroughly browned.
  • Drain off drippings.
  • Reserve meat mixture; set aside.
  • Melt remaining 1/4 cup butter over low heat.
  • Stir in flour, salt and pepper.
  • Cook until smooth, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Gradually stir in milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • Add 1 cup cheese and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Add frozen vegetables and reserved meat mixture.
  • Turn into a 1 1/2-quart casserole; bake at 375° for 25 minutes.
