Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. Crisco shortening
  • 1/4 c. water

Method

  • To make a flaky double crust: combine flour and salt in mixing bowl.
  • Cut in Crisco with a pastry blender. Mixture should be fairly course.
  • Sprinkle with water (a tablespoon a time) and mix lightly with a fork.
  • When all water has been added, work dough into a firm ball.
  • Divide dough into 2 parts and press each part into flat circles with smooth edges.
  • On a lightly floured board, roll bottom crust into a circle 1/8 inch thick and 1 1/2 inches larger than a pie plate.
  • Trim edge evenly with plate and add the apple filling.
  • Wet rim of crust, then add the top crust and fold under the bottom crust.
  • Bake 30-40 minutes at 400°.
