Ingredients
- 3 lb. apples (McIntosh), peeled and sliced
- 1 1/2 c. sugar or to taste
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- dash of salt
- 1/2 lemon
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 pie crusts
Method
- Preheat oven to 450°.
- Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together.
- Squeeze in lemon.
- Mix in with apples.
- Spread a little flour on bottom of pie plate and on top of bottom pie crust.
- Pour in half of apple mixture.
- Top with 1/4 stick butter.
- Add remaining apple mixture.
- Top with 1/4 stick butter.
- Place top pie crust on; finger-crimp edges around pan.
- Beat whole egg and brush over top crust.
- Bake at 450° for 20 minutes.
- Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
- Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
- Cool and eat.
