Ingredients

  • 3 lb. apples (McIntosh), peeled and sliced
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar or to taste
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 pie crusts

Method

  • Preheat oven to 450°.
  • Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together.
  • Squeeze in lemon.
  • Mix in with apples.
  • Spread a little flour on bottom of pie plate and on top of bottom pie crust.
  • Pour in half of apple mixture.
  • Top with 1/4 stick butter.
  • Add remaining apple mixture.
  • Top with 1/4 stick butter.
  • Place top pie crust on; finger-crimp edges around pan.
  • Beat whole egg and brush over top crust.
  • Bake at 450° for 20 minutes.
  • Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
  • Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
  • Cool and eat.
