Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pitted dates
  • 3/4 c. white raisins
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. plain yogurt
  • 2 scant tsp. soda
  • 4 level tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3 c. flour

Method

  • Place dates, raisins and water in pan to boil slowly 15 minutes covered.
  • Set aside for cooling or even overnight.
  • Cream sugars and oleo; add eggs.
  • Beat well, then add all ingredients and flour.
  • Stir well.
  • Add 1 cup chopped nuts, if desired.
  • Make 4 small to medium loaves or 3 large loaves.
  • Bake at 325° for 25 minutes, then at 300°.
  • Total Baking Time:
  • 45 to 55 minutes. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Do not overbake.
