Ingredients

  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • sugar (sprinkle, optional)
  • 1 pkg. chocolate chips

Method

  • Mix together dates, water and baking soda and set aside to cool.
  • Cream together butter and sugar in a separate bowl.
  • Add 2 well beaten eggs to creamed mixture and mix well.
  • Add cooled date mixture.
  • Then add sifted flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder.
  • Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan, greased and floured.
  • Sprinkle top with chocolate chips, nuts and sugar.
  • Bake 30 minutes at 350°.
