- 1 1/2 qt. water or chicken broth (6 c.)
- 10 oz. pkg. frozen chopped broccoli
- 3/4 c. finely chopped onion
- 1 tsp. monosodium glutamate
- 1 tsp. white pepper
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 8 oz. American cheese, shredded (2 c.)
- 1 c. milk
- 1 c. cream (half and half)
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1/3 c. flour
- 1/2 c. cold water
Method
- In a 3-quart saucepan, bring water or broth to a boil.
- Add broccoli and onion.
- Boil 10 to 15 minutes.
- Add seasonings and cheese.
- Stir until cheese melts.
- Add milk, cream and butter. Stir and heat to boiling.
- Slowly add cold water to flour, stirring until mixture is smooth.
- Slowly add to soup mixture, stirring rapidly.
- Cook and stir until soup is thickened.
- Makes 8 to 10 servings.
