- 3 pounds boneless round steak, 1 1/2- to 1 3/4-inches thick
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup catsup
- 6 whole cloves
Method
- Trim excess fat from steak; sprinkle flour evenly on both sides of steak, and pound with a meat mallet.
- Melt shortening in a large Dutch oven; brown steak on both sides. Combine remaining ingredients, stirring well; pour over steak. Cover and bake at 350° for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until tender, adding more water, if necessary.
