Ingredients

  • 8 cups white flour
  • 8 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup lard
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 -5 tablespoons salt
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 -3 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 (4 tablespoon) envelopes dry yeast

Method

  • Proof the yeast in 1 cup of warm water for 10 minutes.
  • Cut the lard into the dry ingregients.
  • Make a well and add the yeast mixture and molasses.
  • Add the water a little at a time until you have a pliable dough.
  • Knead on a lightly floured board for several minutes.
  • Allow to rise until double, placing in a greased covered bowl.
  • Form into loaves and place in greased bread loaf pans.
  • Allow to rise until doubled.
  • Bake 300F for 1 hour.
