Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 c. shortening

Method

  • Sift dry ingredients together.
  • Cut in shortening.
  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Add to buttermilk; stir well.
  • Add to flour mixture; mix until blended.
  • Knead for 1 minute or until smooth. Roll in 1/2-inch thickness.
  • Cut and place on ungreased pan.
  • Bake at 450° for 10 minutes.
  • This dough may be stored in bulk for 3 or 4 days in the refrigerator.
  • It is also good for cinnamon rolls. Makes 20 to 25 servings.
