Ingredients
- 2 1/2 c. self-rising flour, sifted
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 3 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. very warm buttermilk
Method
- Sift together dry ingredients; cut in shortening.
- Dissolve yeast in buttermilk; quickly stir it into flour mixture.
- Knead on board until smooth.
- Roll to 1/8-inch thickness; cut with biscuit cutter.
- Brush with melted butter; place one on top of another on a greased cookie sheet.
- Cover; let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Bake at 325° for 15 minutes.
