Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Sift flour and sugar in a large bowl.
  • In a pan, bring to a boil the butter, cocoa, shortening and water.
  • Pour over flour mixture and beat.
  • Add eggs, cinnamon, vanilla and buttermilk with soda added. Beat well and pour into a greased baking pan (9 x 13 x 2-inch). Bake at 375° until cake springs back when touched, about 45 minutes.
