Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. cold water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 2 sq. chocolate, melted
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. boiling water

Method

  • Have margarine and eggs at room temperature.
  • Cream margarine and sugar together.
  • Add melted chocolate.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Add cold water and vanilla; mix well again.
  • The batter may curdle slightly at this point, but it does no harm.
  • Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with the boiling water.
  • Batter will be very thin.
  • Pour into a greased 8 x 11-inch pan.
  • Bake for about 35 minutes at 350°.
