Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 c. vegetable oil
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 cans tomatoes
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. parsley
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 c. water

Method

  • Saute onion and garlic in oil until soft.
  • In large pot, brown beef.
  • Pour off all but 2 tablespoons fat.
  • Stir in tomatoes, paste, water, sugar, basil, parsley, salt and pepper. Simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently for 45 minutes or until sauce thickens.
