Ingredients
- 2 oz. red cake coloring
- 1 1/2 c. and 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening or margarine
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. fresh buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
Method
- Cream sugar, shortening and eggs.
- Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring, then add to sugar mixture.
- Add buttermilk alternately with flour.
- Mix soda and vinegar together and fold in carefully.
- Bake in 9-inch pans for 25 to 30 minutes at 350°.
