Ingredients
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 2 tsp. cocoa
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. vinegar
Method
- Cream shortening, sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
- Mix cocoa and food coloring.
- Add to creamed mixture.
- Add buttermilk alternately with sifted flour and salt.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Add soda to vinegar.
- Blend into first mixture (do not beat).
- For a 2 layer cake, grease and flour 2 (9-inch) pans and bake 30 minutes at 350°.
- (This cake has an unusual texture.)
