Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Method

  • Sift together these dry ingredients.
  • Stir both mixtures together.
  • Cover and chill for several hours or overnight.
  • Heat oven to 350° to 375°.
  • Roll out dough on a floured board, about 1/8-inch thick.
  • (Roll out a small amount at a time, keeping remaining dough in refrigerator.)
  • Cut out with floured cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Cool and decorate.
