Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. light corn syrup
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine (soft)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. raw shelled peanuts

Method

  • In a heavy, medium saucepan over medium heat, heat to boiling sugar, corn syrup, salt and water, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves.
  • Stir in peanuts.
  • Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until mixture reaches 300° on
  • a candy thermometer or until a small amount of mixture dropped in cold water separates into hard and brittle threads.
  • Remove from heat and quickly stir in butter or margarine and baking soda.
  • Immediately pour into greased cookie sheet.
  • Cool.
  • Snap candy into small pieces. Store in tightly covered container.
