Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1 cup boiling water

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9 inch square cake pan. Into large bowl, measure all ingredients; with mixer at low speed beat until well mixed, scraping bowl with spatula. Beat at medium speed 3 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl. Pour batter into pan and bake 30 to 40 minutes until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack 10 minutes and serve warm with ice cream.
