Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. mushrooms
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • juice of 1/4 lemon
  • 8 slices French bread
  • 1 pt. sour cream

Method

  • Prepare in chafing dish.
  • Wash, trim and slice mushrooms. Saute in butter over moderate heat in a covered pan for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Season with salt, pepper, oregano, nutmeg and lemon juice.
  • Toast French bread.
  • Reheat mushrooms in chafing dish.
  • Add sour cream, stirring while it heats.
  • Do not boil; cream will separate.
  • Serve on bread.
  • Makes 8 servings.
