Ingredients

  • 3 qt. water
  • 2 c. macaroni
  • 4 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. dry bread crumbs
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 c. ham, diced

Method

  • In saucepan bring water and salt to a boil, add macaroni and cook until tender.
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Melt butter over moderate heat in small saucepan.
  • Add flour and cook, stirring until the mixture froths and foams.
  • Add the milk all at once and stir until thickened.
  • Pour sauce into a large mixing bowl and stir in macaroni, diced ham and 1 1/2 cups of the cheese.
  • Pour into prepared casserole dish. Top with bread crumbs, remaining cheese and melted butter.
  • Bake at 375° for 30 to 40 minutes.
