Ingredients
- 3 qt. water
- 2 c. macaroni
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 3/4 c. grated sharp Cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp. dry bread crumbs
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 2 c. milk
- 2 c. ham, diced
Method
- In saucepan bring water and salt to a boil, add macaroni and cook until tender.
- Drain and set aside.
- Melt butter over moderate heat in small saucepan.
- Add flour and cook, stirring until the mixture froths and foams.
- Add the milk all at once and stir until thickened.
- Pour sauce into a large mixing bowl and stir in macaroni, diced ham and 1 1/2 cups of the cheese.
- Pour into prepared casserole dish. Top with bread crumbs, remaining cheese and melted butter.
- Bake at 375° for 30 to 40 minutes.
